Nu-Alpha Chapter · Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

Brotherhood for four years. Brothers for life.

Kappa Sigma's Nu-Alpha Chapter brings together men from every college at Cal Poly around four things: Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. Founded in 1869, chartered at Cal Poly in 1989 — at home in San Luis Obispo.

The Four Pillars

What we're built on

Every Kappa Sigma chapter in the world stands on the same four pillars. Here's what they look like at Cal Poly.

Fellowship

Brothers you'll surf with at Pismo, study with in Kennedy Library, and stand next to at graduation — and long after.

Leadership

Run a committee, plan a philanthropy event, hold an exec position. Nu-Alpha is a hands-on leadership lab.

Scholarship

Cal Poly is rigorous — we treat academics that way too, with study partners in your major and brothers who hold you to it.

Service

From the Military Heroes Campaign to local service in SLO, giving back is a core part of what we do every quarter.

Life at Nu-Alpha

The Cal Poly experience, upgraded

San Luis Obispo is consistently ranked one of the best college towns in America — and being in a brotherhood here means you never do it alone. Hikes up Bishop Peak, Thursday night Farmers' Market, beach weekends, intramurals, and a house full of guys who show up for each other.

Cal Poly teaches Learn by Doing. So do we — brothers lead committees, run events, manage budgets, and build the chapter themselves.

Every Quarter

Rush Week

Open events where you meet the brotherhood — no strings attached.

Fall & Spring

Brotherhood Retreat

A weekend away on the Central Coast to reset and get closer as a chapter.

Winter

Military Heroes Events

Our flagship philanthropy supporting veterans and their families.

Spring

Beach Days & Formal

Avila bonfires, Pismo weekends, and a formal to end the year right.

A Greater Cause

The Military Heroes Campaign

Kappa Sigma's national philanthropy supports wounded and disabled veterans and their families. Since 2007, brothers across North America have raised more than $5 million for veterans' organizations — and Nu-Alpha does its part every year with events like the Military Heroes Boot Camp right here in SLO.

Est. 1869

One of the oldest and largest fraternities in the world

Kappa Sigma was founded at the University of Virginia in 1869 by five friends and brothers, tracing its spiritual roots to a scholars' society at the University of Bologna in the 1400s. Today the Star and Crescent connects hundreds of thousands of living brothers — including the ones you'll meet here at Cal Poly.
